Indian Cities: History and Path Ahead

The Centre for Law and Urban Development (CLUD) at National Law University, Delhi, in association with Soch, hosted a guest lecture on “Indian Cities: History and Path Ahead” by Devashish Dhar on Wednesday, 23 August 2023.

Devashish’s talk was based on his book, India’s Bling Spot: Understanding and Managing Our Cities (HarperCollins Publishers India, 2023) which establishes that cities are humankind’s longest-running experiment & presents a comprehensive study of the phenomenon of Urbanisation.

Devashish is a Mason Fellow from Harvard Kennedy School and Li Ka Shing Scholar from Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore.

Devashish Dhar started off the lecture by discussing his journey and introducing his book. He discussed his experience working in various villages across India and elaborated on issues pertaining to them especially with respect to policy making. He discussed how there was a lack of literature on the subject which presented the need to look at the issues surrounding infrastructure, planning, etc. from an urban lens.

The Lecture was a success with over 60 people in attendance.
