CLUD served as Knowledge Partner at SCL India's 5th Biennial International Conference
The Centre for Law and Urban Development at National Law University Delhi was honoured to serve as the Knowledge Partner for the Society of Construction Law - India’s 5th Biennial International Conference on Construction Law and Arbitration, held from 5 to 7 December at The Lalit, New Delhi.
We extend our gratitude to the Society of Construction Law India, its Chairman Senior Advocate Ratan K. Singh, Joint Secretary Akshay Gandotra, LL.M., Joint Secretary Mohana Potdukhe, and Co-Chair of SCL-Mumbai Ronak Desai for the opportunity to contribute to this landmark event. This engagement reflects the ongoing academic collaboration under the MoU between CLUD and SCL India.
A dedicated cohort of six members, Devender Garg, Ananya Anand, Jalaj Kumar, Apurva Tayal, Tanya Shukla and Utsav Akarsh, supported the organisation of the conference and played an active role throughout the sessions.
The conference opened with an address by Hon’ble Mr Justice Rajesh Bindal of the Supreme Court of India, with Shri R. Venkataramani, Attorney General for India, joining as Guest of Honour. The valedictory session was addressed by Hon’ble Mr Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, with Dr. Manoj Kumar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Law and Justice, as Guest of Honour.
Across nine thematic sessions, the conference brought together leading arbitrators, judges, counsel, engineers, experts and industry leaders from India and abroad.
The discussions spanned the key issues shaping construction disputes, including proof of causation and loss, delay analysis, head-office overheads, cross-examination in arbitration, record-keeping standards, sub-contracting frameworks, defects liability, delay challenges in linear projects and the role of mediation and early neutral evaluation.
